Around 50 members and guests attended the 111th Annual Dinner on Friday October 4th 2024.

The event was held in the Edwardian Lounge and laid out to facilitate both serving and discussion on round tables.
We were honoured to receive Commodore Suzi Nielsen OBE (past student at KEVI College and now one of the most senior ladies in the Royal Navy), Holly Bembridge (Principal of KEVI College), Mike Wood MP (President of Old Foleyans Society) and David Burrows (Chair of Trustees at KEVI College and Treasurer of SOEC).
Despite the hold ups on the ring road (usual problems with traffic light synchronisation by Tesco), everyone managed to arrive on time and had chance for some convivial chats in the bar. Annabelle Wright did a wonderful job of ensuring everyone was checked in prior to the start of the event.
MC David Trewin called those assembled to order as President Clive Bowen-Davies subsequently led the VIP guests into the Edwardian Lounge to welcoming applause.

President Clive gave a welcoming introduction. He thanked David Trewin, who masterminded the table plan as well as acting as master of ceremonies for the night. Rob Hill was thanked for his production of all the table "orders of service" as were all those who had made the event happen - with special mention of Tim (who single handedly produced all the food), Tracey whose staff always serve it efficiently, Jem Norris and our honoured VIP guests and of course all those who attended.
Alf Edwards kicked off the proceedings by saying the Grace and then Tracey and her staff sprang into action by serving the dinner. This year the starter was a very tasty Mushroom and Madeira soup, followed by Roast Welsh Black Beef and all the trimmings, Sherry Trifle and a Cheeseboard and coffee.

After dinner, President Clive then introduced us to the VIPs and laid the groundwork for Commodore Suzi to give what was to be an enlightening talk covering her early days in Stourbridge, attending KEVI College and then through University into the Royal Navy where she rose through the ranks conspicuously , and latterly now directs people delivery in the complex logistical world of the Royal Navy. She went onto to discuss the modern Royal Navy and the opportunities it affords to potential recruits. We were most lucky to have her and very grateful that she took the time and effort to travel from Portsmouth to join us. Her vivacious and engaging manner brought much pleasure to all of us and she was warmly applauded after her talk and much in demand for photo calls afterwards.
Then onto the toasts to monarchs past and present, the Club, College and guests. KEVI College Principal Holly Bembridge responded to the toasts and again we were most grateful that she took the time to be with us amidst her busy business and social schedule. We still maintain close links with the College and have excellent relations with Holly and her staff.
President Clive wished everyone a safe journey home and left us in amazement at how a 97 years old president conducts his duties so youthfully, effectively, and with devotion to the Club whilst many of us struggle with lesser tasks. Keep it up Clive!
