Nearly 50 members and guests assembled in the Old Edwardian Lounge to enjoy our annual and much anticipated celebration of St. David's Day - and actually on St. David's Day this year.

We were indebted to David Trewin (Chair of House Committee) for producing the seating plan which was proudly on display in the hall and included here for posterity.
Rob Hill kindly produced all the table cards and menus - though was sadly unable to attend.
The evening never could have happened without the personal involvement, organisation and massive contributions from Mike "Dafydd" Lewis who really makes these occasions his own for everyone's benefit.
Initially, the event had been cancelled due to Mike's recent ill health but the ever tenacious and determined Mike managed to pull through and provide a wonderful evening for everyone. Many thanks, Mike, for all that you do..... and CHEERS!

The attendees were called in for dinner at 7.30 pm prompt. Clive Bowen-Davies said Grace and the scene was set.
This year the starter was a delicious Smoked Salmon and Prawn Salad, followed by main of roast leg of lamb with all the trimmings, and a selection of Welsh cheeses and comprehensive cheese platter to follow.
The traditional Welsh Cakes were then served with the coffee.
Massive credit and thanks go to our steward and master-chef, Tim, for preparing everything single handedly and to Tracey and her friendly staff for serving it so efficiently.
Apologies to anyone missed from the gallery of photos.

At various times during the proceedings, Mike entertained us royally with his various jokes and stories which were much appreciated by all. Toasts were proposed and national anthems were sung.
David Trewin gave a humorous tale "How fallow is my valley" on the cost benefits of "not rearing sheep"; Sandra and David Trewin read "Merriment from Under Milk Wood "; Huw Jenkins read passages demonstrating the humour of Max Boyce; David Winterford exercised his professional vocal chords and led the singing of "Green, Green Grass of Home; Gwen Roberts delighted us us with Welsh verse (in Welsh of course); and Chris Deacey provided a rousing rendition of "We'll keep a welcome in the hillsides".
Kenneth Wright proposed a vote of thanks to Mike Lewis for all the work he had done in organising the evening and for the copious entertainment.
Mike, in turn referenced that these "Welsh Evenings" had now been in place for over 20 years as initially conceived by past President Bob Lloyd-Jones. In that time he estimated that at least 1,000 people have attended. To mark the occasion Mike concluded that we must award a bottle of wine to someone who has attended virtually all (if not all), of the events and that Lyn Jenkins should duly be nominated as the 1,000th attendee.
Thanks again, Mike. It was great of you to make it happen this year after your spell of ill health and hopefully we can do it all again next year.
